Porsche Panamera Exploit Test Clocks 70MPH at 52 MPG

Published by PGI Auto on March 31st, 2012

When it comes to hybrid vehicles, it can be difficult to maintain an excellent MPG while continually pushing the power through your car that allows it maintain a speed of over 70MPH.  This is where the Porsche Panamera Hybrid sports car has the advantage over all the rest.  Who wouldn’t want to maintain their 52 MPG capabilities while still being able to drive the quick speed their used to?

These readings of 52 mpg over 100 or so miles of cruise-control travel exploited the Porsche system’s ability to power the car electrically at speeds of 70MP, though many hybrids only run in all-electric mode up to about 30 mph.

The 2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid is EPA rated at 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, for a combined overall rating of 25 mpg, so you can see how exciting the discovery of this exploit was.  In a time when many car companies are being taken to court for advertising more MPG than they actually have, Porsche is able to double their advertised MPG under certain conditions.
